I watched Dream for An Insomniac last night. Dun pala galing yung famous line na
"Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of my time."
I wasn't convinced. At least by the actors. I couldn't see the passion. There was no chemistry at all. The story is awesome anyway. But that's not what this is all about.
I heard the quote before. And I onced joined a discussion with my female colleagues about it. It was before the wedding. And you know how little things can magnify when you're about to do the dip. Thinking of such things are crazy!
It's romantic. It's breathtaking. It's idealistic. It's naive. When you're young and in love, you think it's how it should be. It's what you expect. It's what you deserve. Once you get your heart broken, Pandora's box opens. And you realize you could live without it. You could have a relationship minus "the mad, passionate extraordinary" thing. It's scientific anyway. My bestfriend (whose going to be married next month) said that "kilig" could only last for 2 years. 2 years? I always lose 'kilig' after 3 months!
You (think) you live a normal life. And you (almost) feel happy and contented. You're protected. You've built walls around you. It's perfectly clear who's your enemy. Then shit happens. You're given one more chance to be stupid. You're again at the crossroad feeling like a chicken who can't cross the street. And you ask yourself over and over, "Will the chicken cross the street? Why will the chicken cross the street?"
The answer is simple. When Pandora's box opened, your eyes opened (It's what you need to cross the street. You can't cross the street with eyes closed! You're not an idiot anymore!) The chicken is crossing the street because at the end of it, there's another chicken who's willing to take the plunge to be as stupid as you. And that chicken happens to be the "wake up call", the beautiful and only reason to get up to every fuckin' morning. Disagree? Then you haven't met any chicken at all.
PS: i learned from this movie that insomnia is not the habit of 'not being able to sleep' but actually a habit of 'poor sleep'. Bummer.
